Let’s look at a boosted post versus a Facebook ad. Do you know what the difference is and when you should use one rather than the other?
What is a boosted post?
A boosted post is a post on your Facebook page’s Timeline that you can apply money to to boost it to an audience of your choosing.
It’s the simplest way to advertise on Facebook. You do not need to create it in Ads Manager, and you don’t have the same customisation features.
When you boost a post, it’ll show up in your audience’s News feed as an ad.
You can also choose Instagram and Messenger as an ad placement in addition to Facebook mobile and desktop newsfeed. You can choose a post that has already been posted to boost.
Customisation options include who you want to reach, your maximum budget and how long you want to run your ad for. You can focus on goals such as website clicks, page engagement and local business promotions. Creative and formatting options are somewhat limited and you can only select an audience by interests, age and gender.
What is a Facebook ad?
A Facebook ad is created through Ads Manager in Meta’s Business Suite. It offers more advanced customisation solutions, such as advertising objectives, to help you reach your specific advertising goals and the audiences that you care about most.
When you create a Facebook ad, you can choose additional ad placements such as Facebook newsfeed side ads, Messenger ads, Instagram Stories, instant articles and Audience Network. You have advanced ad objectives such as store traffic, conversions and lead generation to choose from. You can also maintain creative control by creating carousel ads, ad specific descriptions and add specific call-to-action buttons. Moreover, you can use advanced targeting capabilities such as creating overlapping audience types, lookalike audiences and more.
Boosted posts have their place but there is so much more functionality available to you for your budget if you create your ads in Facebook Ads Manager. So, do you understand a boosted post versus a Facebook ad?
